JZ Knight in the Media: State Legislature Picks Up JZ Knight’s Lead in New Bill

February 2009

The Washington State Legislature learned about the water rights issue for new developments in the recent case of JZ Knight vs. City of Yelm, et al., where Superior Court Judge Chris Wickham ruled in favor of JZ Knight on November 8, 2008.

State Bill 5867 was introduced in the State Legislature on February 5, 2009, which closely mirrors JZ Knight’s proposition to the courts in her case. JZ Knight requested that substantial verification of water supplies for new subdivisions and developments should be required at the time of plat approval and not the later building permit phase, to protect the common good.

Ms. Knight has concluded all activity on the water issue with the City of Yelm, except to respond to the city’s appeal of her case. She has had no involvement whatsoever regarding any facet of SB 5867.
